i saw you following me
through the field strewn with red & gold leaves
to the base of that frozen mountain
in the corner of my eyes
at every switchback

i wouldn't say it then but i was scared
the blood rushing to my brain told me to run
every version i've known of myself returned
with blurred vision

i saw you following me
through the dark hallway
when i was young
passed my doorway and just stopped
without much shape or response

now this blood in my veins
still pumps and i'm still scared
